Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded $400,000 to help create jobs and improve public services for residents in Macon County.
The Community Development Block Grant awarded by Bentley will help construct a 250,000-gallon water tank that will serve LogisAll USA and residents in the town of Shorter. LogisAll is locating in the county and will provide 40 new jobs. The company supplies freight and warehousing services for automobile manufacturers in Alabama and Georgia.
Grant funds also will be used to extend municipal sewer services to the site of new company’s facility to be located in an industrial area north of Interstate 85.
“Job creation remains my top priority, and the 40 new jobs at LogisAll is good news for the town of Shorter and Macon County,” Bentley said. "I appreciate the effort and teamwork of local and state leaders and company officials in making this project a reality.”
LogisAll, which will serve Hyundai Alabama in Montgomery, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia and suppliers of both manufacturers, expects to hire 17 employees when it opens and 23 additional employees within its first year of operation.
The new water tank will ensure plentiful water and improved services for the town, including supplying adequate water pressure required for commercial and residential fire hydrants. The improved water and sewer system will enable the city and county to recruit other industry to the area, according to town officials.
Bentley notified Mayor Willie Mae Powell that the grant had been approved. Local funding of $223,000 will supplement the CDBG funding.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
