Gov. Ivey awards grants to help at-risk youth in Coffee, Dallas and Montgomery counties
MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded two grants to help at-risk youth and their families make positive behavioral changes to avoid the juvenile justice system.

A $50,000 grant to the Children’s Policy Council of Dallas County will help support the Youth and Family Intervention Program in Dallas County. The program is designed to provide juveniles and their parents with skills and instruction to strengthen family bonds, promote positive development and reduce the likelihood of involvement with the juvenile court system.

Young’s Mentoring Program Inc. will use a $47,098 grant to help to support the Strengthening Families program in Coffee and Montgomery counties. The 14-week program is designed for youth at-risk of delinquent behavior and their parents. The program teaches skills to build positive parent-child relationships and better decision making.

“By guiding at-risk teens to make better choices and strengthening their families, we can help secure a brighter future for not only themselves but also their communities,” Ivey said. “I commend these agencies for the work they do to help their communities by providing programs and resources to help them find the way back on the path to a successful future.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.

“Gov. Ivey understands the importance of helping steer wayward youth in the right direction, and ADECA is pleased to help in that goal of making stronger families,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation development.
