Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded $300,000 to assist one of Alabama’s largest manufacturers to expand and create new jobs.
The Community Development Block Grant awarded to the Talladega County Commission will support Honda Manufacturing of Alabama’s plans to upgrade its automobile manufacturing facility in Lincoln and hire 50 new employees. The company currently employs about 4,000.
With the help of CDBG funding, the county will install nearly a mile of new water line enabling the Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board to provide service to the Honda facility. Until now, the plant has relied upon local wells as its water source.
“These improvements will make it possible for Honda to expand and for Alabama workers to produce even more top quality vehicles,” Bentley said.
Honda Manufacturing of Alabama produces the Odyssey minivan, the Pilot sport-utility vehicle and the Ridgeline pickup truck.
Bentley notified Commission Chairman Kelvin Cunningham that the grant had been approved.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocates CDBG funds to Alabama. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs reviews grant applications and determines which projects to recommend to the governor for approval.
ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, workforce development, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management.
