Gov. Bentley awards grants to equip Guin Police Department

MONTGOMERY— The Guin Police Department is purchasing new equipment with the help of grants totaling $1,792 awarded by Gov. Robert Bentley.

The city with purchase a variety of equipment – including ballistic vests and uniforms – to help officers while out on patrol.

“Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every time they are on duty protecting our communities,” Bentley said. “I am pleased to assist Guin in purchasing this equipment that will help their officers perform their duties safely and efficiently.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department. ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.

“These grants are a continuation of ADECA’s strong partnership with the Guin Police Department and other law enforcement agencies across Alabama,” ADECA Director Jim Byard Jr. said. "ADECA is proud to partner with law enforcement officers who make our communities stronger by keeping our residents safe.”

Bentley notified Mayor Phil Segraves that he had approved the grants.
