Governor awards grant to equip Elba police

MONTGOMERY– Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $9,980 grant to provide equipment for the Elba Police Department.

The grant will fund the purchase of LED flashlights, Tasers and rain gear. The Tasers will provide a non-lethal means to subdue uncooperative suspects who pose a threat to officers or the public.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.

Bentley notified Jack Mullinax, Elba city clerk, that the grant had been approved.
