MONTGOMERY— The fight against illegal drugs in Madison County is getting a boost thanks to a $475,000 economic stimulus grant awarded by Gov. Bob Riley.
The grant will help the Huntsville-Madison County Strategic Counter Drug Team continue investigating, arresting and prosecuting drug offenders.
“I am pleased to support the team’s efforts to reduce the sale of illegal drugs and drug-related crimes,” said Riley. “I thank the members of the Counter Drug Team for their efforts to protect the safety of Madison County residents.”
The unit is a combined effort of the Madison County District Attorney’s office, the Sheriff’s Department and the cities of Huntsville and Madison.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Department of Justice as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Riley notified Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle that the grant had been approved.
